5 Weird But Successful Businesses Ideas

Entrepreneurship

People are strange, so it makes sense that plenty of businesses would be, as well.

In this post, our Florida SEO services team has compiled a list of some of the oddest business ideas that you might find amusing or even inspiring.

1. Pet Cafés

Owning a pet can make someone happier and healthier, but for many of us, long hours at work, budget constraints, and small apartments make it impossible. However, there is good news for animal lovers.

You can now enjoy a cup of coffee while spending time with your furry friends, as the global movement of animal cafés has arrived in the United States.

Pet cafés are establishments where customers can order beverages while also spending time with their furry residents. In some pet cafés, customers can even bring their pets.

Pet cafés have been hugely successful in Japan and Taiwan for many years. The first cat café opened in Montreal in 2014, and the idea has since spread across North America. Cat cafés are part of a larger trend of activity bars, which include bowling alleys and video game arcades.

Check out the KitTea Cat Lounge in San Francisco, California, for some feline fun. The venue is home to 16 to 24 cats at any given time. Thirteen of the kitties are permanent residents, and the remaining three to eleven are available for adoption.

There's also the option of launching spinoffs like dog cafes or rabbit cafes.

2. Civet Coffee

Speaking of pet cafés where you can sip a cup of coffee while socializing with your four-legged friends, there's another unusual business concept that is also related to coffee.

Introducing... civet coffee.

If you don't know what it is, it's just the world's most expensive coffee—made from poop. It's made from coffee beans that have been partially digested and then pooped out by civets, a cat-like creature.

In the United States, a pound of kopi luwak can cost around $150 and $600. This is typically derived from captive and farmed civets. If you only want to buy the specialty version derived from wild civets, it will cost around $1,400 per pound.

Specialty coffee shops sell kopi luwak for around $40-$80 per cup.

You can look into The Kopi Luwak Company to get a sense of what Civet coffee might taste like and how they run their business.

If you enjoy coffee or already own a café and want to make a lot of money, you should think about investing in the civet coffee trade.

3. Digital Clothes

People have been putting on digital accessories with social media filters for years. The gaming skins market—where players of games like Fortnite buy bespoke costumes, or "skins," for their avatars—is thought to be a multibillion-dollar industry.

Then there's Facebook's latest news about the metaverse. Though it may sound bizarre and far-fetched, the digital and physical worlds are colliding right now.

Designers are now making more reality-bending digital fashion pieces for individuals to wear to express themselves and push creative boundaries. One may argue that digital fashion is becoming more authentic.

DressX now sells its designs and partnerships with various digital designers.

Customers of DressX can experiment with digital garments using augmented reality. If consumers opt to buy, they upload a photo of themselves to the website or app, then receive the shot with their digital fashion piece expertly edited onto their body, ready for posting on social media, in one to two days.

"Our goal is to provide everyone [with] their digital closet," DressX co-founder Natalia Modenova stated.

If you're into fashion and digital design, why not combine the two and make a business out of it?

4. NFTs

Since we've touched the digital realm, why not push it a little bit further? You thought the digital space couldn't get even weirder?

Say hello to NFTs!

Many artists and designers are researching how to create and sell an NFT as a potential new source of income. However, NFTs are more than just a new way to sell art; they can be used to secure ownership of digital assets, gain access to new communities, and even register ownership of physical items.

These non-fungible tokens are stored on the blockchain, which can help make them rare and extremely valuable. An NFT represents ownership of a specific file or item, such as artwork, videos, in-game items, or even real estate.

Simply put, it's like digital art collecting.

If you're still unsure what a non-fungible token is, our Florida SEO services team recommends reading this NFT explainer: What Is An NFT? How Do NFTs Work?

It should also be noted that artists like Beeple, who sold his NFT collection for $69 million, are incredibly rare.

NFT art can sell for prices as high as real-world art; the big difference is that digital artists can now earn royalties on future sales.

If you're into crypto money and art, why not start making and selling NFTs?

5. Chicken Rentals

Yes, you read that right. This is the weirdest of them all. But you can make money renting out chickens!

Your ideal customer is someone interested in urban farming.

Renting a chicken and supplies is a terrific method for a customer to evaluate if having a chicken coop in their backyard is actually what they were expecting.

In addition to providing chickens, you may also rent out chicken coops and give supplies and equipment, which can enhance the amount of money you generate each month.

To see is to believe, so here's Rent The Chicken's chicken rental package for you to check out.

This recurring revenue stream does not require many clients to generate a full-time income.

This quick yet comprehensive tutorial tells you how to establish your chicken renting service, with examples of what you can charge and possible profit.
